Is the photographer coming this week and there is no time to “stage your home?” Here are 10 easy must dos before your home is photographed and available online to the world.
CLEAN MIRRORS
As simple as that sounds, it is often overlooked but totally can be seen in the final images and not easily fixed with photoshop.
NICELY MAKE THE BEDS
This means more than throwing the covers back over the pillows. The bed is often the primary focus in a bedroom and must look presentable to show the best in the final images. If there is one thing to splurge on to sell you home - this is it! I recommend buying a bedding kit for each room that includes the skirt shams and maybe even a decorative pillow. Remove all extra blankets, pillows and stuffed animals; they do not entice the buyers.
REMOVE CLUTTER
This might seem like a no brainer but more often than not, a home being photographed still have too many bathroom products on the sink counter, 5 remotes on the end table, a garbage cans in each corner of every room.
TOILET SEAT COVERS DOWN AND WIPED
Yep easy but sometimes missed.
VEHICLES OUT OF THE DRIVEWAY AND AWAY FROM VIEW OF HOUSE
This is a must as the outside of your home is the first photograph most people will see, make it as presentable as possible. This is more important that organizing your closets for the pictures.
MOW OR SHOVEL
This is again important because the front of your home is the first photograph anyone sees and it also lets the possibly buyer know that you aren’t trying to hide something.
SWEEP HARD SURFACE FLOORS
This doesn’t mean getting down on your hands and knees to clean but a good sweep will help reduce the possibility of any unwanted crumbs.
NICELY FOLD OR REMOVE TOWELS FROM BATHROOMS
A dirty towel or mismatch towels can be very displeasing in a small space, if you aren’t a good folder or don’t have nice towels, it is recommended to keep them in the closet for the pictures.
PUT AWAY ALL SHOES AND COATS IN ENTRYWAY
This again is a first impression and usually a smaller space in the home so by removing these items it helps give the sense that the space is larger and less cluttered.
PUT AWAY ALL THE DISHES
Clean or dirty there should be no dishes on the counter or in the sink. This can easily and quickly be done by hiding them in your dishwasher if present. This will again help remove any clutter that isn’t necessary from the final photographs.
Now that you have ran around like crazy, sit back, relax and let the photographer do their work. Good luck in the sale of your home and your next adventure.
